Weekly Preview for August 30th - September 3rd

 

Hello POD 6.4 Parents! Welcome!  We had an incredible first two days with your students.  Looking forward to a great school year! For Good of the Cause: 1.  6th Grade Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 2nd from 6:00 - 7:00.  More information from us about Open House will be coming in an email on Tuesday, 8/31. 2.  6th Grade Band Lessons begin on Monday, August 30th. 3.  Math Apps with Mrs. Schmitt will begin on Monday, August 30th, and will meet every Day 3.  Students received notification if this applied to them. Language Arts:  Students will be beginning to learn the process and format to the Reader Responses they will be doing with Independent Novels throughout the year.  There is no assessment scheduled at this time. Science:  Students will be "launching into Science" with their First Unit - Forces & Motion.  Students will spend time getting to know the ins and outs of the day to day operations in Science through different activities.  There is no assessment scheduled at this time.    Math Class:  Students will launch Unit 1 - Numerical Expressions and Factors.  We will ease into the school year by spreading Lesson 1.1 - Whole Number Operations, out over several days.  Students will be introduced to the Big Ideas Math Online interface, as well as to a Number Vocabulary Poster that will be completed over the next couple of weeks.  There is no assessment scheduled at this time. Donahue Social Studies - Students will introduced to their first project of the year, which should be straightforward and fun, since it is all about them!  Students will also explore what a Community is, what Groups are and how both are intertwined in the big picture of Society.  There is no assessment scheduled at this time.
